FC 27 Ones to Watch Is Back!

Release dates, the leaked 21, how the four upgrades work, and why this year's OTW cards aren't coming out of packs

FC 27 Ones to Watch promotional graphic featuring Diomande, Lacroix, and Adeyemi player cards, with neon blue and teal effects and the headline “FC 27 Ones to Watch Is Back!” and “Check Out Players Upgrade Path.”

Four years. That's how long it's been since a proper Ones to Watch card existed in this game. It's back for FC 27. And the very first thing EA did with it was take it out of packs. Here's the short answer. FC 27 Ones to Watch starts on October 9 at 6pm UK and runs until October 23, split across two teams. The cards come through SBCs, Objectives and the Season Ladder rather than promo packs, and each one can pick up to four +1 upgrades across the season.

That packs change is the single most important detail in the whole promo, and nobody's talking about it properly yet. So let's start where you start: the dates, the squad, and whether any of this is worth your coins.

When Does FC 27 Ones to Watch Start?

October 9th. 6pm UK. Runs until October 23rd.

There are two drops inside that window. Team 1 lands on the 9th and sits until the 16th, then Team 2 takes over from the 16th through to the 23rd. Same rhythm OTW has always had.Which means it is not your launch promo. The game goes worldwide on September 25th, and the Ultimate Edition gets you in from the 18th. Destined for Glory holds the fort from launch until October 9, while you're still fumbling around trying to remember which button does a first-touch fake.

  • September 18 — early access

Ultimate Edition owners get in a week early. The coin-building window quietly opens here.

  • September 25 — launch and Destined for Glory

Full release. The launch promo goes live, and unlike OTW, its cards do come out of packs.

  • October 8 — club-win tracking starts

The day before OTW drops. Domestic league results from here onwards count toward the three-wins-in-six upgrade.

  • October 9, 6pm UK — Team 1

Ones to Watch Team 1 goes live as Destined for Glory wraps up.

  • October 16 — Team 2

The second batch takes over for the final week.

  • October 23 — campaign ends

The promo closes. The upgrades carry on for the whole season.

So you've got a full two weeks of FC 27 before OTW even shows up. Two weeks to build a coin balance. Hold that thought.

Why Aren't FC 27 Ones to Watch Cards In Packs?

Because EA have moved them to earned routes. The campaign's items come through SBCs, Objectives and Season Ladder progression, not promo packs. Read that again, because every instinct you've built since FIFA 17 is telling you to grind promo packs on release night and pray. That instinct is now worthless.

Where the 21 cards come from

4 cards through SBCs and Objectives.

17 cards behind the Season Ladder, the pass you climb by banking points in Rivals, Squad Battles and the rest.

0 cards in promo packs.

That's a completely different game. You can't gamble your way into these. You can't open forty packs and get lucky. You grind, you complete, or you go to the market and pay whatever the people who bothered are asking.

You can't gamble your way into these. You grind, you complete, or you pay.

And here's the part that should make you sit up. If these are locked to Objectives and the ladder rather than flooding out of promo packs, supply is going to be thin. Thin supply on a card that can upgrade itself all season is exactly the setup that tends to push prices one way. Not a promise, just how these markets usually behave.

More on which ones to actually target in a minute. First, the squad.

The Leaked FC 27 Ones to Watch Squad

Usual disclaimer: this is leak territory. EA haven't confirmed the full list, and names drop off these sheets every single year. But here's what's circulating.

Twenty-one names. Four centre-backs on that list, which tells you EA aren't just handing out attackers this time and notice the women's side is in there properly. Senß, Anyomi and Cerci all get live items. Women only arrived in Ultimate Team after OTW's last run, so this is the first time they've been part of the promo at all, and it's a genuinely decent shout.

What's missing? Ratings.

Almost every one of these is still a blank on the leak sheet. Sávio is the exception at 83, up from his 80-rated base card.

You'll see sites throwing out numbers for Tielemans and Ferran. Treat those as guesses until EA puts them on a screen.

How Do FC 27 Ones to Watch Upgrades Work?

Each card can pick up to four separate +1 upgrades, and every condition counts on its own. That's the whole reason OTW earns its reputation.

The Four +1 Upgrades — each one counts separately
UpgradeNeeds the player?
Player of the MonthYes
Team of the WeekYes
Star PerformerYes
Club wins 3 of 6 league gamesNo

So a striker who hits form in November, picks up a POTM, grabs a TOTW in the same stretch and plays for a side that wins half their next six? That's a card climbing four points while you sleep. Four points doesn't sound like much until you remember what it does to the stats underneath, and to the price. An 83 that becomes an 87 isn't 4% better. It's a different card.

Why the club-wins upgrade is the sneaky good one

It has nothing to do with the player. Nothing. The player doesn't need to feature in the matches for it to count.

A squad-rotation full-back at a side that's winning gets that upgrade for free, sat on the bench in a tracksuit.

The fine print matters, though. Only domestic league matches from October 8 onwards count. Cup, continental and international games don't.

Don't just look at the player. Look at the fixture list.

Lacroix at Chelsea. Elliot Anderson and Bouaddi at City. Ferran at PSG. Adeyemi at Barcelona. These are sides that routinely win three of six league games. That's about as close to a banked upgrade as this promo gets, before you've even asked whether the player is any good.

Target: a player at a winning club Smart

Chelsea, City, PSG, Barcelona. The club-wins +1 is close to banked. Everything else is a bonus.

Avoid: a talent at a mid-table side Risky

Lovely card. Needs to personally drag his club up the table to move a single point. Probably never upgrades.

That's the whole trade, and most people will get it wrong in week one.

Remember When Your OTW Was The Best Card You Owned?

Let's do the nostalgia bit, because this promo has history. It started in FIFA 17, as a deliberately understated card at a time when every other special item was screaming at you. That restraint is exactly why it aged so well.

FC 27's version keeps the DNA: a black base with gold accents. It's the one design in this game that never needed reinventing, and to their credit EA haven't tried.

How Should You Prepare For FC 27 Ones to Watch?

Three things, and none of them involve packs.

01. Bank coins

Trade between the 25th and the 9th while everyone else panic-buys meta cards at launch prices. When OTW hits a thin market, be the buyer.

02. Start the ladder on day one

Seventeen of these sit behind it. Drift up casually and you won't finish, then you'll pay market for something you could have earned.

03. Target fixtures, not names

The club-wins upgrade is the most reliable +1 in the promo, and the leaked list is full of players at clubs that rack it up.

Do those and the promo works for you. Ignore them and you'll be the one in December wondering why an 87 Lacroix costs what it costs. If you want the bigger picture on how the Season Ladder and SBCs changed this year, the FC 27 Ultimate Team guide covers every change EA made. And if you're still getting your bearings, start with building your first FC 27 squad.

For context on where these leaked ratings will sit, the top of the FC 27 base ratings is Haaland and Mbappé at 91, so an 83 OTW with four upgrades in it has a lot of room to climb. Oh, and that thing I said at the very start, about the cards not being in packs? Two weeks of coin-building suddenly isn't optional prep. It's the entire strategy.

FC 27 Ones to Watch: Your Questions, Answered

When does FC 27 Ones to Watch start?

FC 27 Ones to Watch starts on October 9 at 6pm UK time. Team 1 runs from October 9 to October 16, Team 2 from October 16 to October 23, and the campaign ends on October 23.

Are FC 27 Ones to Watch cards in packs?

No. The items come through SBCs, Objectives and Season Ladder progression rather than promo packs. Based on the leaked squad, four cards arrive via SBCs and Objectives and seventeen sit behind the Season Ladder.

How do FC 27 Ones to Watch upgrades work?

Each Ones to Watch card can earn up to four +1 upgrades, and each condition counts separately. A card upgrades when the player earns a Player of the Month item, a Team of the Week item or a Star Performer item, plus once more when their club wins three of six domestic league matches.

Does the player need to play for the club-wins upgrade?

No. The player does not need to feature in the matches. Only the club's results count, as long as it wins three of six domestic league matches played from October 8, 2026 onwards. Cup, continental and international matches do not count.

Who is in the FC 27 Ones to Watch squad?

The full squad hasn't been confirmed by EA. The leaked 21-player list includes Sávio, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Rodrigo Mora, Pedro Gonçalves, Ferran Torres, Karim Adeyemi, Youri Tielemans, Maxence Lacroix and Elliot Anderson, alongside women's players Elisa Senß, Nicole Anyomi and Selina Cerci.

What are the FC 27 Ones to Watch ratings?

Almost all ratings are still unconfirmed. Sávio is the only leaked player with a rating attached, at 83, up from his 80-rated base card. Treat any other numbers circulating online as guesses until EA reveals the cards.

When was the last Ones to Watch promo?

The last full Ones to Watch promo ran in FIFA 23, headlined by an 88-rated Erling Haaland. It was dropped for FC 24, FC 25 and FC 26, with Road to the Knockouts taking over the live-card slot, before returning in FC 27.

What is the FC 27 launch promo before Ones to Watch?

Destined for Glory is the FC 27 launch promo. It runs from the September 25 release until October 9, when Ones to Watch takes over, and unlike OTW its cards are available in packs.

Final Whistle

The lesson from every OTW that ever printed still stands. The cards that made people money were bought early, at clubs that kept winning. This year you can't pack them, so the only people buying early are the ones who saved for it.

October 9th. 6pm. Don't be broke.
