Shoulders first, then shoot. Tap shoot twice for a Low Driven Power Shot.
Thirty yards out. Lane wide open. You hold both bumpers, hit shoot, and your striker winds up like he's about to take out a stadium roof. Then the ball lands somewhere near the car park. Again.
The straight answer: to do a power shot in FC 27, hold L1 + R1 (PlayStation) or LB + RB (Xbox and PC controller), then press shoot. Aim with the left stick yourself, because power shots are manually aimed. Use them from outside the box with a clear lane, not in a crowded area. Tap shoot a second time and you get a Low Driven Power Shot instead. That's the input sorted. The rest of this guide is why they miss, when to use them, which cards actually hit them properly, and how to stop the lad who scores one every match against you.
FC 27 Power Shot Controls On Every Platform
The FC 27 power shot input is the same on PlayStation and Xbox: both shoulder buttons plus shoot. On PC with a controller you use the Xbox layout.
Here's every version, including the low-driven variant most guides skip.
| Shot | PlayStation (PS5 / PS4) | Xbox / PC controller |
|---|---|---|
| Power ShotThis one | L1 + R1 + ◯ | LB + RB + B |
| Low Driven Power Shot | L1 + R1 + ◯ (hold for power), then ◯ again | LB + RB + B (hold for power), then B again |
| Finesse Shot | R1 + ◯ | RB + B |
| Chip Shot | L1 + ◯ | LB + B |
| Standard Shot | ◯ | B |

On keyboard, check your own Controller Settings. We couldn't find an official EA keyboard chart for the FC 27 power shot. Some sites quote specific keys but even the FC 27 controls wiki says the WASD and arrow-key layouts differ and are fully rebindable. So we're not guessing a key combo at you.
Hold both shoulder buttons, then shoot. Press shoot with only one shoulder held and you get a chip (L1/LB) or a finesse (R1/RB) instead.
How Do You Do A Power Shot In FC 27, Step By Step?
You do a power shot in FC 27 by creating space, pre-aiming with the left stick, holding both shoulder buttons, then pressing and holding shoot to set the power. Keep steering gently through the wind-up. The whole thing takes longer than a normal shot, so the space comes first.
1. Buy yourself a yard of space
The power shot wind-up is longer than a normal strike. A defender in touching distance will block it or nick it.
Take a touch out of your feet, play a quick one-two, or shift it across the edge of the box first.
2. Pre-aim before you press anything
Point the left stick at your target corner before the input. Glance at where the keeper is standing.
Deciding early means less panicked correcting once the animation's already started.
3. Hold L1 + R1 (or LB + RB), then press shoot
Order matters. Shoulder buttons down first, then shoot. This is the number one reason a "power shot" comes out as a floaty chip.
4. Hold shoot to set the power
The longer you hold shoot, the more power goes on it. There's no official "perfect" bar, so don't trust anyone quoting an exact number as EA fact.
Start around the middle from the edge of the box and adjust in Practice Arena.
5. Keep steering, gently
Power shots have been fully manually aimed since they arrived in FIFA 23, with no assist at all, as this breakdown of the original mechanic explains. FC 27 guides still describe it as a manually aimed strike with a longer wind-up, so aim it yourself even if you normally play on Assisted shooting. Tiny nudges move the ball a few feet. Big swings send it to Row Z.
Space → pre-aim → shoulders → shoot → small nudges. Skip step one and nothing else matters.
Why Does My FC 27 Power Shot Come Out Low And Driven?
Because you pressed shoot twice. In FC 27, a second tap of shoot turns any power shot into a Low Driven Power Shot. It's not a bug, and it's not timed finishing.
ONE PRESS
Rising power shot. The rocket.
TWO PRESSES
Low Driven Power Shot. The daisy-cutter.
EA confirmed in its FC 26 gameplay Pitch Notes that timed finishing was removed and double-tapping became the Low Driven input across most shot types. That includes power shots.
EA said timed finishing was hard to balance and over-rewarded long-range shots. FC 27 didn't bring it back. What it did change is the Low Driven PlayStyle. Per EA's FC 27 Gameplay Deep Dive, the PlayStyle no longer adds a speed boost.Shot speed now comes from the player's shooting attributes and your input power. The PlayStyle still helps accuracy.
So if you've got FC 26 muscle memory from the old timed-finishing days, that habit double-tap is quietly turning your rockets into daisy-cutters.
One press for a rising power shot, two presses for a low one. Pick on purpose.
When Should You Actually Use A Power Shot In FC 27?
Use a power shot in FC 27 when you've got a clear lane to goal from outside the box and at least a yard of space. It's your long-range weapon.
Inside a crowded box, a finesse, low driven or standard shot is almost always the better call.
POWER SHOT HEAT MAP · ATTACKING THIRD
| Situation | Power shot? | Better option |
|---|---|---|
| Edge of the box, clear central lane | Yes This is its home. | n/a |
| 25+ yards, keeper off his line | Yes If you've got space for the wind-up | n/a |
| First touch pushed into space | Yes The touch buys the wind-up time. | n/a |
| Deep block, bodies in the lane | No | Recycle the ball, find the gap |
| Inside the box, defender close | No | Finesse or standard shot |
| One-on-one with the keeper | No | Finesse, low driven or chip |
| Tight angle near the byline | No | Cut-back or low driven |
The logic is simple. The wind-up is the price, and space is how you pay it.
The original mechanic was designed so that long animation leaves you open to a tackle or a block. That trade-off still decides whether the shot works.
No lane, no space, no power shot. Recycle and go again.
How Much Power Should A Power Shot In FC 27 Have?
Less than you think. EA doesn't publish an ideal power level, but a full bar is the fastest way to hit the stand. The closer you are to goal, the less power you need.
SHOT POWER BAR · RULE OF THUMB, NOT EA DATA

Here's the rule of thumb most players settle on after an hour in Practice Arena:
- Edge of the box: controlled power. Extra force mostly adds error, not danger.
- Long range (25+ yards): more power, because distance needs pace. Still don't max it by habit.
- Inside the box: don't use a power shot. If you must, go light.
In FC 27, input power also scales with your player's shooting attributes. That's the direction EA pushed across its FC 27 shooting PlayStyle changes. A 60 Shot Power full-back won't turn into a cannon because you held the button longer.
Power is set by how long you hold shoot. Learn the feel per distance in Practice Arena, not in Division Rivals.
Power Shot vs Power Shot+: Is The Gold PlayStyle Worth The Coins?
Power Shot+ is worth it if power shots are a big part of how you score. You don't need either PlayStyle to take a power shot, but the faster wind-up is exactly what stops defenders getting a block in.
POWER SHOT
Silver PlayStyle
Makes power shots faster and harder.
POWER SHOT+
Gold PlayStyle+
Makes power shots much faster, with a significant speed increase.
Those effects come straight from the PlayStyle descriptions on EA's official Power Shot+ ratings page and FUT.GG's Power Shot PlayStyle page.
Which FC 27 players have Power Shot+?
The list is short: 17 cards in total, per FUT.GG. Here are the base versions at launch (26 September 2026).

Does the badge matter more than the stats?
Less than it used to. EA spent FC 27 shrinking the gap between PlayStyle and non-PlayStyle players on shooting. Finesse Shot now leans harder on attributes, and Low Driven lost its speed boost. Power Shot wasn't named in those changes, but the direction is clear.
For power shots, check Shot Power and Long Shots first. Then weak foot, because a power shot off a 2-star weak foot is a donation to the crowd.
Power Shot+ is a real upgrade for the wind-up, but a high Shot Power card without the badge still hits them fine.
Keep the bragging rights.

ARE POWER SHOTS OVERPOWERED IN FC 27?
A fair chunk of players think so, but EA hasn't changed them yet.
Within days of launch, a thread on EA's official forums asked for power shots to be tuned down. The complaint was that they're scoring from odd angles, keepers aren't reacting, and the wind-up isn't enough of a drawback.
The same post pointed out that even players with the standard PlayStyle, not the Plus version, were scoring them reliably. It asked EA for a server-side Live Tuning tweak rather than waiting for a Title Update.
As of 26 September, EA hasn't announced any power shot change. The early 1.0.1 update didn't touch shooting or goalkeepers at all.
Enjoy them while they're this good, but don't build your entire attack around one input.
That's my honest verdict. EA can tune gameplay server-side, and "the thing everyone's complaining about" has a habit of getting quieter.
Strong right now, under community pressure, no official nerf yet. Keep a second way to score.
How Do You Stop Power Shots In FC 27?
You stop power shots by attacking the wind-up. The long animation is the only window you get, so close the shooter down early and put a body in the lane. Don't wait until the ball's already struck.
DEFEND 01
Step up as soon as he opens his body. A striker squaring up 25 yards out is telegraphing it.
DEFEND 02
Block the lane, don't lunge. Jockey between the ball and goal. A body in the way beats a sliding tackle that misses.
DEFEND 03
Don't leave the edge of the box empty. If you defend deep with no midfielder screening, you're gifting him space for the wind-up.
DEFEND 04
Watch for the double-tap. Low Driven Power Shots skim under a keeper's dive, so a blocker on the ground line matters.
The wind-up that makes power shots risky for the shooter is your chance as the defender. Use it.
The Five Power Shot Mistakes That Cost You Goals
- 01 · Shooting with a defender in range
The wind-up gives him time. Create space first.
- 02 · Maxing the bar
More power, more error. It usually ends up over the bar.
- 03 · Wild stick swings
Pre-aim, then nudge. Manual aim punishes big corrections.
- 04 · Forcing it in the box
Finesse or a standard shot is the higher-percentage finish in there.
- 05 · Pressing shoot twice by accident
Debut cards hit the market at launch. Have the coins ready before prices spike.
