FC 27 Shooting Guide: Best Techniques, Controls and Tips (And the Near-Post Finish EA Admits Is Strong)
Every shooting control, the low driven near-post finish EA admits is strong, the right Shot Assistance setting and the tips that are flat-out wrong
By Parth Raj · Updated
Through on goal. Keeper coming. You've got the whole bottom corner to aim at.
And you smash it straight into his shins. Again. Third time this match.
The straight answer: FC 27 shooting comes down to picking the right shot for the chance. Inside the box, the double-tap Low Driven finish is the strongest option right now, and EA has admitted near-post low drivens can be stronger than other shots. Use Finesse from an angle with space, Power Shots from range with a clear lane, and chips only when the keeper has committed. Your player's Finishing, Shot Power, Long Shots and Weak Foot still decide a lot of the result.
That's the cheat code. The rest of this FC 27 shooting guide is the detail: every control, which setting to use, why your trivelas keep coming out as normal shots, and the "tips" floating around that are flat-out wrong.
- Low Driven = double-tap shoot. It works on most shot types, not chips. It's the go-to finish inside the box.
- EA's own verdict: near-post low drivens may be stronger than other options, but EA isn't changing core gameplay yet.
- Finesse needs space and an angle. FC 27 made it lean harder on attributes. You don't need Finesse Shot+.
- Trivela needs Gamechanger. Without it, you just get a normal laces shot.
- Shot Assistance: Assisted, Precision or Manual. Precision is partial help, not full manual.
- No timed finishing. It was removed in FC 26 and hasn't come back.
- Power: there's no official "perfect bar". Less power close in, more from range.
FC 27 shooting controls for every shot type
Every FC 27 shot is built from the same shoot button plus a modifier. Hold the modifier, press shoot, hold shoot to set power, and tap shoot again if you want it low driven. Here's the full list, including the bits most guides skip.
| Shot | PlayStation (PS5 / PS4) | Xbox / PC controller |
|---|---|---|
| Normal (laces) shot | ◯ | B |
| Low Driven Shot | ◯, then ◯ again | B, then B again |
| Finesse Shot | R1 + ◯ | RB + B |
| Low Driven Finesse | R1 + ◯, then ◯ again | RB + B, then B again |
| Power Shot | L1 + R1 + ◯ | LB + RB + B |
| Low Driven Power Shot | L1 + R1 + ◯, then ◯ again | LB + RB + B, then B again |
| Chip Shot | L1 + ◯ | LB + B |
| Flair Shot (Trivela with Gamechanger) | L2 + ◯ | LT + B |
| Fake Shot | ◯, then ✕ + direction | B, then A + direction |
| Shot Cancel | L2 + R2 during the wind-up | LT + RT during the wind-up |
| Volley / Header | ◯ as the ball arrives | B as the ball arrives |
Sources: the full input list from FIFPlay's FC 27 shooting and finishing breakdown, and EA's FC 26 gameplay Pitch Notes for which shots accept the Low Driven double-tap. Your exact layout is always under Settings > Basic Controls.

Two things people get wrong with these controls:
- Low Driven works almost everywhere. EA built the double-tap into laces shots, finesse, trivela, flair, power shots, volleys and headers. The one exception is the chip. EA's own help page confirms it still applies to most shot types in FC 27.
- Shot Cancel is your friend. If you start a wind-up and a defender steps across, cancel it and recycle instead of donating the ball.
On keyboard? Keymap trackers list D as the default shoot key, but Keymap Labs' FC 27 page doesn't document the modifier combos, and EA doesn't publish a keyboard chart for them either. Check Settings > Basic Controls in-game, which is where EA's help page sends you too. I'm not guessing key combos at you.
KEY TAKEAWAY
Modifier + shoot, hold for power, tap again for low. Shot Cancel exists. Use it.
What's the best shot in FC 27 right now?
The Low Driven finish inside the box, especially across or at the near post, is the strongest shot in FC 27 right now. That's not just me saying it. On 30 September, EA's gameplay team said in its FC 27 launch gameplay update that it had seen feedback that low driven shots, near-post ones in particular, can be stronger than other options.
Low Driven PlayStyle+ Shot
Here's the catch for anyone waiting on a nerf. In the same post, EA said it's broadly happy with the balance between shooting and goalkeeping and isn't making changes that would touch core gameplay for now. Operation Sports' write-up reads it the same way: EA is watching the data before it changes anything.
And the patches since haven't touched it. Title Update 1.0.3 on 2 October was bug fixes only, with nothing on shooting or keepers.
So, my honest verdict: learn the low driven near-post finish now. It's the most reliable chance-converter in the game, and EA has said publicly it isn't rushing to change it. Just don't make it your only finish. "We're monitoring it" has a habit of becoming "we tuned it" on a Tuesday.
KEY TAKEAWAY
Low driven, inside the box, placed away from the keeper's body. It's officially acknowledged as strong.
Which shot should you use? The FC 27 shooting decision table
The best FC 27 shooting habit isn't one shot. It's matching the shot to the chance. Bookmark this.
| The chance | Best shot | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1v1, keeper set on his line | Low Driven, aimed away from his body | Low and quick, the hardest thing for a set keeper to reach |
| 1v1, keeper rushing out | Chip, or a low driven past his side | He's committed, so go over or around him |
| Inside the box, bodies in the way | Low Driven | Stays under legs and blocks |
| Edge of the box, from an angle, far corner open | Finesse (or Low Driven Finesse) | Curl and placement beat raw pace here |
| 20+ yards, clear lane, a yard of space | Power Shot | Pace from range, if you can afford the wind-up |
| Awkward body shape, outside of the foot is the natural angle | Trivela (Gamechanger players only) | Opens the far side without switching feet |
| Cross or corner at head height | Header, timed run | FC 27 headers need cleaner contact (more below) |
| Defender closing during your wind-up | Shot Cancel | Keep the ball, recycle, go again |
The rule underneath all of it:
Close in, place it. Far out, power it. No space, don't shoot.

KEY TAKEAWAY
If you're shooting the same way from every position, that's why the keeper keeps looking good.
How do you finish 1v1s in FC 27?
You finish 1v1s in FC 27 by watching the keeper first and picking the shot second. If he holds his line, slot a low driven finish away from his body. If he rushes out, chip him or go low past his side. Don't pre-pick a corner, and don't shoot the moment you enter the box.
KEEPER HOLDS HIS LINE
Low Driven
Slot it away from his body, low and quick.
KEEPER RUSHES OUT
Chip
Or go low past his side. He's committed, so go over or around him.
Read the keeper before you press anything
Half a second of patience wins 1v1s. A keeper who's shuffled across leaves the near post. A keeper who's stood tall and central leaves both bottom corners. Shoot into the space he gives you, not the space you planned on the halfway line.
Use your strong foot
A low driven off a 2-star weak foot is a coin flip at best. If you've got one extra touch, use it to shift onto the good foot. It's the cheapest accuracy upgrade in the game.
KEY TAKEAWAY
Keeper first, shot second. And only chip a keeper who's properly come off his line, or you've just played him a back pass.
Which Shot Assistance setting should you use in FC 27?
FC 27 has three Shot Assistance options: Assisted, Precision and Manual. Assisted keeps your aim on goal, Precision gives partial help, and Manual gives none. For most players, Assisted or Precision is the right call. Here's how EA itself describes them on its FC 27 accessibility resources page:
DEFAULT
Assisted
What EA says: makes sure your shot is always aimed at goal.
Who it suits: most players. Consistency first.
PARTIAL HELP
Precision
What EA says: partial assistance towards goal.
Who it suits: players who want more placement control and have tidy stick work.
NO HELP
Manual
What EA says: no aim help; you point it in the right direction yourself.
Who it suits: competitive grinders willing to practise a lot.
WATCH OUT FOR THIS ONE
At least one popular settings guide describes Precision as giving you full manual control. EA's own definition says it's partial assistance. Those aren't the same thing, and if you switch expecting Manual, you'll be confused why your shots still drift towards goal.
Three more settings worth checking while you're in there:
- Auto Shots: with it on, the game can shoot for you in the six-yard box when you've got almost no reaction time. Dot Esports' FC 27 settings guide recommends turning it off so you decide when to shoot.
- Precision Pass and Shot Visuals: a toggle that adds visual aids for aiming passes and shots. Handy while you're learning Precision.
- Assisted Headers: when it's on, the game can choose to head a pass instead of a shot. Worth knowing if your striker keeps nodding crosses sideways.

KEY TAKEAWAY
Assisted for consistency, Precision for control. Precision is not Manual, whatever you've read.
Are finesse shots bad in FC 27?
No, but they're less of a cheat code than they used to be. In FC 27, EA rebalanced the Finesse Shot PlayStyle so the shooter's attributes have more say. Per EA's FC 27 gameplay deep dive, spin, animation speed and off-angle effectiveness now scale more consistently with the player, which narrows the gap between a base player, Finesse Shot and Finesse Shot+.
That last bit matters. You'll see guides claiming Finesse Shot+ is basically required now. EA's own notes say the opposite: the gap between the badge levels got smaller, not bigger. A player with strong Finishing and Curve can finesse it fine without the plus.
Where finesse still earns its place:
- Cutting in from the side of the box with the far corner open
- A defender blocking the direct line, so you need to bend it round him
- Your player's on his strong foot with a yard of space
Where it doesn't: central, close range, keeper set. A low driven or a normal shot is cleaner there. And yes, people are already complaining that finesse 1v1s don't go in, including in this thread on EA's own forums that's mostly about power shots. In a 1v1 against a set keeper, that's usually a shot-selection problem: low driven is the better finish there.
KEY TAKEAWAY
Finesse from angles, not from the penalty spot. Attributes matter more than the badge now.
How do you do a trivela in FC 27?
You do a trivela in FC 27 with a player who has the Gamechanger PlayStyle, using the flair input (L2 + ◯ on PlayStation, LT + B on Xbox) from an angle where the outside of the foot is natural. Without Gamechanger, the game won't play the trivela at all. You'll just get a normal laces shot.
That rule isn't new, but loads of players still don't know it. EA moved trivelas behind the Gamechanger PlayStyle in FC 26, and its FC 26 Pitch Notes say a trivela attempt without it defaults to a laces shot. The input itself is the flair button (L2 + ◯ on PlayStation, LT + B on Xbox), as this step-by-step trivela guide from Nerd's Chalk shows.
Trivela+ Playstyle Guide
How rare is it? In FC 27, Gamechanger+ sits on just 13 cards, and regular Gamechanger on 449, according to FUT.GG's Gamechanger tracker at the time of writing. FUT.GG also lists the effect: Gamechanger lets a player hit trivelas and makes fancy shots more accurate, and the plus version makes them more accurate still.
GAMECHANGER+
13 cards
Trivelas, with fancy shots at their most accurate.
GAMECHANGER
449 cards
Trivelas, with more accurate fancy shots.
Two tips once you've got the right card:
- Approach on a diagonal. A right-footer cutting in from the right is the classic trivela angle.
- You can low-drive it. Double-tap shoot after setting power and the trivela stays low.
KEY TAKEAWAY
No Gamechanger, no trivela. Check the card before you blame the controller.
How much power should you put on a shot in FC 27?
EA doesn't publish an ideal power level, so ignore anyone quoting an exact number of bars as fact. The rule that actually holds: less power the closer you are, more power from distance.
INSIDE THE BOX
Controlled
Extra force mostly adds error.
EDGE OF THE BOX
Moderate
Enough pace to beat the keeper, not a full bar by habit.
LONG RANGE
More
This is where Shot Power and Long Shots really earn their numbers.
One thing that changed this year: Low Driven shot speed now comes purely from your player's shooting attributes and how much power you put in. EA's FC 27 deep dive confirms the Low Driven PlayStyle lost its speed boost but still helps accuracy. So a low driven from a weak finisher won't magically fizz in because you held the button longer.
Power Shots: the long-range weapon
Power Shots (L1 + R1 + ◯ / LB + RB + B) are your answer from 20-plus yards. They're manually aimed and have a long wind-up, so you need a clear lane and a yard of space. The Power Shot PlayStyle makes them faster, and Power Shot+ much faster with a big jump in ball speed, per FUT.GG's Power Shot page.
I've done a whole breakdown on these, including why they keep ending up in the stands and how much power to use, in our full FC 27 power shot guide.
KEY TAKEAWAY
Power scales with distance. Learn the feel in Practice Arena, not in Rivals.
Headers and volleys in FC 27
FC 27 headers are harder to connect cleanly but more accurate when you do. That's straight from EA's gameplay deep dive: clean headers from crosses and corners are less frequent, but a good connection is more accurate than in FC 26. Attackers may also stretch, dive or adjust their runs to reach the ball, so you'll see more variety in how headers come off.
What that means in practice:
- Your run matters more than your button. Attack the space early. A late, static run gets you a scruffy glance.
- Low drive your headers with a second tap of shoot to aim them down at the line.
- Use players built for it. Heading Accuracy and Jumping matter, and the Precision Header PlayStyle adds accuracy and power, per fifauteam's FC 27 PlayStyles guide.
Volleys use the same shoot button as the ball arrives. Ball height, body shape and the run decide whether you get a volley or a header. The Acrobatic PlayStyle adds more accurate volleys and extra acrobatic animations.
KEY TAKEAWAY
Fewer free headers this year, but the clean ones go in. Time the run, not the button.
Which attributes and PlayStyles matter most for FC 27 shooting?
Finishing is the big one inside the box. Shot Power and Long Shots take over from range. Weak Foot decides how many angles you can actually use. The technique helps, but the player still takes the shot.
| Attribute | What it really affects | When it matters most |
|---|---|---|
| Finishing | Accuracy on shots inside the box | Every 1v1, every low driven |
| Shot Power | How hard the ball travels | Power Shots, low drivens (now attribute-driven) |
| Long Shots | Accuracy from outside the box | Power Shots, edge-of-box finesse |
| Curve | How much the ball bends | Finesse and trivela |
| Weak Foot | Reliability off the wrong foot | Tight angles, quick finishes |
| Composure | Finishing under pressure | Crowded boxes, late chances |
| Heading Accuracy + Jumping | Clean headers | Crosses and corners |
And the PlayStyles worth paying attention to on a striker:
- Low Driven Shot: now an accuracy boost rather than a speed one. Still useful, since low drivens are the meta finish.
- Finesse Shot / Finesse Shot+: faster, curlier, more accurate finesse. Less of a gap to base players than before.
- Power Shot / Power Shot+: faster wind-up and more ball speed.
- Gamechanger / Gamechanger+: the only way to get trivelas at all.
- Precision Header and Acrobatic: for the aerial and volley stuff.
If you're picking a striker on a budget, our best strikers and starter squad for FC 27 Ultimate Team is where I'd start.
KEY TAKEAWAY
Finishing and Weak Foot win games inside the box. The badges are the bonus, not the base.
FC 27 shooting myths you can ignore
Plenty of FC 27 shooting tips doing the rounds are recycled from older games or just made up. I checked them against EA's own notes.

How to practise shooting in FC 27
The fastest way to fix your FC 27 shooting is Practice Arena. EA's help page gets you there via Play > Learn to Play > Practice Arena, and you can pause and open Button Help to see your exact controls.

A quick routine that transfers to matches:
- Ten low drivens from inside the box, five to each post. Strong foot first, then weak foot.
- Ten finesse shots from the left and right corners of the box, aiming far post.
- Five power shots from 25 yards. Vary how long you hold shoot and watch where the ball ends up.
- Five chips after carrying the ball towards the keeper.
- Swap players and repeat a few. You'll feel the difference Finishing and Shot Power make.
KEY TAKEAWAY
Repetition in Practice Arena is free. Missing sitters in the Weekend League isn't.
FAQ: FC 27 shooting
What is the best shot in FC 27?
The Low Driven finish inside the box is the strongest shot in FC 27 right now. You do it by pressing shoot, then shoot again. EA said on 30 September that near-post low drivens can be stronger than other options, but it isn't changing core gameplay yet.
Is there timed finishing in FC 27?
No. EA removed timed finishing in FC 26 and FC 27 hasn't brought it back. Pressing shoot a second time now gives you a Low Driven version of the shot instead.
What is the best Shot Assistance setting in FC 27?
Assisted is best for consistency and Precision for more control. EA describes Precision as partial assistance, not full manual. Manual gives no aim help and suits experienced players who practise a lot.
Why won't my player do a trivela in FC 27?
Your player probably doesn't have the Gamechanger PlayStyle. Without Gamechanger or Gamechanger+, a trivela attempt turns into a normal laces shot. Check the card's PlayStyles, then use the flair input (L2 + ◯ or LT + B) from an outside-foot angle.
Do you need Finesse Shot+ to score finesse shots in FC 27?
No. In FC 27, EA made finesse shots scale more with player attributes, which reduced the gap between base players, Finesse Shot and Finesse Shot+. Good Finishing, Curve and a strong-foot angle matter more than the badge.
How do you do a low driven shot in FC 27?
Hold shoot to set power, then press shoot again before the strike. It works on normal, finesse, power, trivela, flair shots, volleys and headers, but not chips. In FC 27, low driven speed comes from your player's attributes and your input power.
The bottom line
- Low driven is king inside the box, and EA has publicly admitted the near-post version is strong.
- Match the shot to the chance: place it close in, power it from range, finesse from angles, chip only a rushing keeper.
- Check the card, not just the controls: no Gamechanger means no trivela, and Finishing plus Weak Foot still beat any badge.
