FC 27 Trading Guide: How to Trade and Make Coins in Ultimate Team

The 5% tax maths, nine methods from 0 coins to a million, and the weekly cycle that tells you when to buy and sell

FC 27 Trading Guide cover with gold player cards, coin stacks and a rising market chart

By Parth Raj · Updated

Most people who lose coins trading in FC 27 don't lose them on a bad buy.

They lose them on the 5% they forgot about.

You buy a card for 10,000, list it at 10,400, it sells, and for about four seconds you feel like Warren Buffett. Then the coins land and you've got 9,880. You paid EA 120 coins for the privilege of being slightly wrong.

BREAK-EVEN WAS 10,527 · THANKS FOR TRADING

Here's the short answer. Trading in FC 27 means buying cards and items on the Transfer Market for less than they're really worth, then selling them for more after EA's 5% tax. Because of that tax, a flip has to sell for roughly 5.3% more than you paid just to break even. The FC 27 trading methods that work best right now are Item Score fodder flipping, chemistry style flipping, sniping straight after reward drops, and buying meta cards early in the week to sell before Champions.

That's the whole game. The rest of this FC 27 trading guide is about doing it with numbers instead of vibes, plus the FC 27 changes that make this the most trader-friendly Ultimate Team in years. Most trading guides haven't caught up with those yet, and they're where the easy margin is hiding.

We'll get there. First, the basics you can't skip.

How does trading work in FC 27?

Trading in FC 27 runs entirely through the Transfer Market. There's no direct player-to-player swapping, so every deal is a public listing, and it's paid in coins only. FC Points can't be spent on the market at all, and you can trade from your console or PC, the Web App, or the Companion App.

When you list something, you set three things: a start price (the minimum bid), a Buy Now price, and an auction length of one, three, six or twelve hours. If nothing sells, the item comes back to your transfer list. No fee, no harm done.

What you can trade: player cards, managers, consumables like contracts and fitness, chemistry styles, and club cosmetics. What you can't: anything marked untradeable, plus loan items.

How do you get Transfer Market access in FC 27?

You need to clear the Rising Through the Ranks starter objectives on a fresh club first. Access isn't always instant, especially on the Web App, where EA wants to see some genuine play history on the account before it opens the market.

If you're still at that stage, our beginner's guide to starting your first FC 27 Ultimate Team squad walks you through the early objectives so you're not stuck waiting longer than you need to.

The 5% tax: the one number you have to memorise

EA takes 5% of every completed sale. Not your profit. The sale.

So the real question on every trade isn't "can I sell it for more?" It's "can I sell it for more than 105.3% of what I paid?" Here's what that looks like:

The FC 27 EA tax — break-even and real profit on a 10% markup
You bought it forBreak-even sale priceSell 10% higher, you keepReal profit

50,00052,63252,250+2,250
100,000105,264104,500+4,500

Look at that last column for a second. A 10% markup turns into a 4.5% profit. Nearly half of every markup goes straight to EA.

Break-even is what you paid divided by 0.95. Every coin above the gold line is profit, everything below it is a loss, even when the card "sold for more".

That's why cheap flips need a fat percentage margin to be worth the listing slot, and why your trading should be tracked like a ledger: bought for, sold for, tax, net. If you only remember the sale price, you'll always think you're doing better than you are.

Ask me how I know.

What's changed for traders in FC 27?

FC 27 makes far more rewards tradeable, pays coins after every match, scores SBC fodder by Item Score and adds the FUT Gallery, Holographics and rarer Evolutions. This is where FC 27 trading genuinely differs from last year, and it's the reason copy-pasted FC 26 advice will cost you.

Trade FC 27, not FC 26. The demand has moved, and so has the margin.

The full picture of every mode change lives in our FC 27 FUT guide covering every Ultimate Team change. Here's just what matters for your coin balance.

Far more of your rewards are tradeable

According to EA's FC 27 launch update Pitch Notes, a much bigger share of rewards across objectives and game modes is now tradeable, and every pack reward was tradeable at launch. Division 1 Rivals alone now pays 95,000 coins plus a stack of tradeable gold player packs.

What that means for you: when weekly rewards land, millions of tradeable cards hit the market at once instead of sitting in clubs as untradeables. The supply dump is bigger than it's been in years.

Great news if you're buying. Terrible news if you're the guy listing his 84s at the exact same moment as everyone else.

Coins now arrive after every match

End of Match Rewards pay coins and Season Points straight after games. EA says Champions and Rivals can pay several times more per match than FC 26's typical 500 to 600 coins, with Squad Battles getting a bump too.

The trading angle: more coins circulate through the whole week, not just on reward day. Demand doesn't fall off a cliff between Thursdays the way it used to, which makes mid-week flips more reliable.

Item Score rewrote how fodder works

This is the big one.

Streamlined SBCs in FC 27 don't ask for chemistry, leagues or nations anymore. They score your submission on rating and rarity, and EA's Ultimate Team Pitch Notes confirms you can now submit duplicates and make partial progress across several sessions.

The key detail is how the scores jump between ratings. According to this FC 27 Item Score breakdown, an 83 is worth 410 points while an 84 is worth 830:

83-RATED GOLD

410 pts

In launch week it cost about the same as an 82 or an 84, which made it roughly the worst-value fodder in the game.

84-RATED GOLD

830 pts

One rating point more, double the Item Score. For an SBC builder, every 84 is worth twice an 83 at the same price.

On top of that, Holographic items get a rating bonus for Item Score purposes (+2 for 87 and under, +3 for 88 and above), and it stacks with the rarity bonus that TOTW and campaign cards already get.

Two takeaways for traders. Every 84 is now interchangeable fodder, regardless of league or nation, so the whole rating band moves together. And you should be thinking in coins per Item Score point, not coins per card.

KEY TAKEAWAY

Price fodder in coins per Item Score point. If an 84 costs about the same as an 83, the 84 is the better buy every time. Hold that thought: it powers one of the best methods further down.

The FUT Gallery logs every player item you've ever owned, whether it came from packs, objectives, SBCs or the Transfer Market, and it keeps counting even after you sell or submit the card. There are over 100 Sets at launch built around leagues, clubs and rarities, rewarding Gallery Tokens, cosmetics and Holographic items.

So random cards from mid-table clubs suddenly have collectors. This FC 27 coins guide highlights silver cards from clubs like Málaga and Birmingham City as a proper budget earner for exactly this reason.

And here's a trick almost nobody is talking about. Because the Gallery keeps the record after you sell, you can buy a card you need for a Set, log it, and put it straight back on the market. Your real cost is the 5% tax plus whatever gap there is between your buy and sell price. It's basically renting the card.

Holographics are the new chase item

Holographic items are rarer variants of special cards, and each player only gets one. They count for more in Gallery Sets and carry that Item Score bonus.

Rare, collectable and useful in SBCs is a strong combination for value. But any brand-new item type takes a couple of weeks for the market to price properly, so don't be the person who sets the record high on day one.

Evolutions are rarer but bigger

EA has said Evolutions will drop less often and at more deliberate moments this year, and the PlayStyle+ cap has dropped from five to three per item.

Fewer Evos means each one hits harder. When an Evolution is announced or leaked, the cheap cards that qualify can jump fast. If you're quick, that's a flip. If you're slow, you're the exit liquidity.

What are the best FC 27 trading methods, from 0 coins to a million?

The best FC 27 trading methods depend on your budget: packs and chem styles for a few thousand coins, Item Score fodder and Gallery Sets in the middle, and weekly cycles, promo speculation and crash buying once you're past 100,000. They're ordered below roughly by how much you need to start. Pick one or two that fit your budget and your free time, and get good at those before you spread out.

1. The bronze and silver pack method (budget: a few thousand coins)

Buy cheap packs, then list the rare players and consumables individually instead of quick-selling everything. Contracts, fitness items and chemistry styles are scarce early in the season, which is when this works best.

Silver players who qualify for popular Evolutions are worth listing properly, and so are silvers that Gallery Sets want. Keep your duplicates. In FC 27 they're SBC fodder now.

The margin per pack is small. The risk is close to zero. It's the perfect first rung on the ladder.

2. Chemistry style flipping (budget: 5,000 to 50,000)

Every squad needs chem styles, the supply is steady and the price filters make them easy to work. Bid on several auctions ending soon, then relist at Buy Now.

Focus on the in-demand styles like Hunter, Shadow and Engine. The cheap ones barely survive the tax, while the pricier ones give you a margin worth the listing slot.

3. Item Score fodder flipping (budget: 20,000 to 200,000)

This is the method that makes the most sense in FC 27 specifically.

Buy the cheapest 84-rated golds you can find, from any league, during quiet periods between big SBC drops. Then sell when a major SBC or promo lands and everyone suddenly needs Item Score in bulk. The whole 84 band tends to rise together, because they're all worth the same 830 points.

Before you buy, run the maths in coins per Item Score point. If an 84 costs about the same as an 83, the 84 is worth twice as much to an SBC builder. Buy what builders want, not what looks cheapest.

Work out which Sets players are grinding, find the cheap or obscure cards those Sets need, and buy them before the crowd arrives. Silvers and lower-league cards are often the easiest wins because nobody was paying attention to them until the Gallery gave them a purpose.

Just check whether a card advances one of your Sets before you sell it on. Logging it first costs you nothing.

5. Sniping (any budget, needs your time)

Set a Buy Now filter below a card's real market value and refresh until someone lists it cheap by mistake or in a hurry. The best windows are straight after Rivals or Champions rewards land, when people dump cards fast without checking prices.

Nudge the minimum bid filter up and down between searches to force fresh results. Snipe, relist just under the going rate, repeat.

It's the highest earner per minute. It's also the most tiring, so don't expect to do it for four hours straight.

6. The weekly cycle flip (budget: 50,000 and up)

Meta cards tend to bottom out early in the week and peak heading into the weekend. Buy on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday morning after rewards, then sell from Thursday evening into Friday as players build their Champions squads.

Stick to cards people actually use in-game. Meta players hold demand all year, which is why they're the safest thing to cycle.

7. Promo and SBC speculation (budget: 100,000 and up)

Pack-able promo cards are usually most expensive in the first few hours after a campaign launches, then drift down as supply builds. If you pack one, sell early. If you want one, wait.

The same logic applies to Team of the Week cards: sell last week's TOTW before the new one drops on Wednesday evening. Our FC 27 TOTW 3 breakdown shows which in-forms are worth holding and which to move on.

With Item Score now running most SBCs, rating-band speculation (stocking fodder before big releases) is safer than old-school league or nation guessing. Leaked Player SBCs and Evolutions still create sharp spikes in very specific cards, though, so keep an eye on the leak accounts.

8. Mass bidding (budget: flexible, needs your time)

Bid on lots of auctions ending within the hour at a price that leaves room for tax and profit, then relist the winners at Buy Now. You'll lose most bids. That's fine. You only need enough wins at the right price.

This works best on cheaper players and consumables where loads of auctions finish every minute.

9. Crash buying (budget: big, and patience)

Before the biggest promos, people panic-sell their meta cards to buy packs, and prices dip hard. The first major crash usually hits around Black Friday, with more around Team of the Year and Team of the Season.

Set your target buy prices on a shortlist of meta players before the crash, buy into the panic, and sell once the supply rush is over and prices recover. Big budget, big patience, big reward when you get the timing right.

When is the best time to buy and sell in FC 27?

The best time to buy in FC 27 is Thursday morning (UK time), right after Division Rivals rewards drop and the market floods with tradeable cards, plus Monday and Tuesday when demand is at its weakest. The best time to sell is Thursday evening through Friday, as players build squads for FUT Champions. Sell TOTW cards before the new Team of the Week arrives on Wednesday evening.

One heads-up: UK clocks go back in late October, which can shift reward times for anyone outside the UK. Check the in-game timers rather than trusting your memory.

What's coming next on the FC 27 trading calendar?

Ones to Watch is running now, Black Friday in late November is usually the first big crash, and Team of the Year and Team of the Season bring the biggest crashes and recoveries. Weekly cycles are the bread and butter. Seasonal events are where the big swings happen.

  • Now — Ones to Watch

OTW cards aren't in packs this year, so they come through SBCs, objectives and the Season Pass. That pushes fodder demand up rather than flooding the market with OTW cards. Good news if you're holding 84s.

  • Late November — Black Friday

Usually the first major crash of the year, as the first high-value promo packs arrive. Start building cash before it, not during it.

  • January — Team of the Year

One of the biggest crashes and recoveries of the season. If you're planning a crash-buying play, plan around this one.

  • Spring — Team of the Season

The other big crash-and-recovery window. Exact dates shift every year, so treat these as seasons, not appointments.

How much can you realistically make trading in FC 27?

There's no honest fixed number, because it depends on your budget, your time and how disciplined you are with the tax. What you can control is your margin. Aim well above the 5.3% break-even on every flip, and go for a bigger percentage on cheap items, where the tax eats a larger share of your markup.

Small consistent wins add up faster than you'd think. Purely as illustrative maths, not a promise: a 50,000-coin bankroll that nets 5% per completed flip grows to roughly 90,000 after twelve successful flips. Not every flip lands, of course, and some will lose. That's exactly why spreading your coins beats going all-in.

A rough plan by budget:

UNDER 10,000

  • Pack method
  • Cheap chem styles
  • Sniping

Build the bankroll first.

10,000 TO 100,000

  • Item Score fodder
  • Gallery Sets
  • The weekly cycle

Where most of your growth happens.

100,000 AND UP

  • Weekly cycle on meta cards
  • Promo speculation
  • Crash buying

Always keep some coins liquid.

Which trading mistakes quietly drain your club?

None of these feel like a big deal in the moment. Together, they're why most people's trading "profits" never seem to show up in their balance.

  • Forgetting the tax. Covered it. Still the number one leak.
  • Quick-selling tradeable items. Quick sell pays a fraction of what most cards fetch on the market. List them.
  • Putting your whole balance in one card. One nerf, one surprise SBC, and you're stuck holding it.
  • Buying promo cards in the first hour. That's when they're at their most expensive.
  • Listing on Thursday morning. You're competing with every reward pack in the game.
  • Submitting to SBCs without checking the Gallery. Log it first. It's free.
  • Not tracking anything. If you can't say what you made last week after tax, you don't actually know whether you're winning.

Is trading in FC 27 safe? Autobuyers, bans and search limits

Trading on the Transfer Market is a normal part of FC 27 and completely within the rules when you do it manually. What gets accounts into trouble is automation. EA's rules ban bots and autobuyers, and using one is the fastest way to lose your club.

STAY ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF EA

No autobuyers, no bots, no lightning-fast search spam on the Web App, and no overpriced listings bought by a friend to move coins between accounts.

The other thing to watch is speed. Search and bid at an inhuman pace, especially on the Web App, and EA can temporarily block you from the market. Keep your sniping at a pace a real person could manage, take breaks, and you'll be fine.

It's also worth avoiding anything that looks like moving coins between accounts, like massively overpriced listings bought by a friend. That pattern is exactly what EA looks for.

Don't fancy grinding the market?

Trading works. It also takes hours of refreshing searches and watching prices, which is time you could spend actually playing the game.

If you'd rather skip straight to the squad, you can buy FC 27 coins at WhatsGaming through Comfort Trade or Player Auction. It's rated 4.7 out of 5 on Trustpilot across more than 1,700 reviews, and every order comes with a 72-hour money-back guarantee.

To be straight with you: buying coins goes against EA's terms, and bans are rare but not impossible on any coin service. FAQ: FC 27 TRADING

How much tax does EA take on the FC 27 Transfer Market?

EA takes 5% of every completed sale, not 5% of your profit. That means a card has to sell for about 5.3% more than you paid just to break even. A card bought for 10,000 coins needs to sell for 10,527 before you make a single coin.

What is the best trading method in FC 27?

Item Score fodder flipping makes the most sense in FC 27, because every 84-rated gold is worth 830 Item Score points regardless of league or nation. Beginners with only a few thousand coins should start with the bronze and silver pack method and cheap chemistry style flips.

When is the best time to buy and sell in FC 27?

Buy on Thursday morning (UK time) after Rivals rewards land, and on Monday and Tuesday when demand is lowest. Sell from Thursday evening into Friday as players build Champions squads, and sell last week's TOTW cards before the new Team of the Week drops on Wednesday evening.

Can you get banned for trading in FC 27?

Manual trading on the Transfer Market is within EA's rules. Bots and autobuyers are banned, searching at an inhuman pace can get you temporarily blocked from the market, and overpriced listings used to move coins between accounts are exactly what EA looks for.

Why can't I use the Transfer Market in FC 27?

You need to finish the Rising Through the Ranks starter objectives on a fresh club first. On the Web App, EA may also want to see some genuine play history on the account before it opens the market.

The bottom line

Three things to take away from this FC 27 trading guide:

  1. Respect the 5%. Every flip needs to clear 5.3% just to break even. Price with that in mind every single time.
  2. Trade FC 27, not FC 26. Tradeable rewards, Item Score and the Gallery have changed where demand comes from. 84s, Gallery cards and Holographics are where the fresh margin sits.
  3. Work the calendar. Buy into the Thursday morning dump and the early-week lull, sell into Champions, and save your bankroll for Black Friday.

Treat your club like a ledger. Buy for less, sell for more, and remember that EA always gets paid first.
